Reinforcing our commitment

Mobile Care Outreach

In the areas where we work, numerous barriers prevent vulnerable women from accessing vital health information and care at healthcare facilities (i.e., clinics, hospitals) during pregnancy and childbirth. For instance, because of their low income, time and physically demanding jobs, and family responsibilities, many pregnant women in both rural and urban areas, rarely take the time off to seek information and advice about their health from healthcare professionals. We understand how difficult it is for these women to seek timely care and learn more about their health conditions. That is why Pregnancy-Help-Ghana is here to bring primary health care and information services to the door-steps of vulnerable women.

The Mobile Maternal Care and Information Outreach provides opportunities for scaling-up our efforts to improve maternal health in socially disadvantaged communities. This program uses mobile vans and motorcycles to provide basic health care and information to vulnerable women at where they live. Our goal is to help hard-to-reach vulnerable women, who find it difficult to reach out directly to health professionals because of socioeconomic constraints. The mobile care and information outreach is led by a team of professional and experienced physicians, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, and public health practitioners. These professionals collaborate effectively to provide a wide range of health services, which include:

  1. Consultations

  2. Antenatal and postnatal care

  3. Testing or screening for infectious illnesses

  4. Immunization

  5. Education on self-care and medication

  6. Counselling on medical and social issues

  7. Dispensing of medicines

  8. Cancer screening (i.e., clinical breast examination)

  9.  Provision of referrals

  10. Provision of guidance and information on how to enroll in the national health insurance program

  11. Provision of advice and information on how to manage and cope with chronic stress
